Abstract In the last years, there has been an improvement in the overall survival of patients with gastrointestinal tumors, one of the main factors being the deep understanding of molecular biology, the determination of prognostic factors, and of course, the development of new drugs all in has allowed gradual but significant advances in the treatment of gastric cancer. The first-line of treatment has shown benefits, however many of these patients show progression of the disease, which raises the challenge of optimizing the following treatment lines, and developing better treatment strategies. The role of second-line treatment has recently been introduced and discussed, although there is evidence regarding the benefit of some drugs such as docetaxel, paclitaxel and irinotecan in second-line treatment, and this benefit has shown a reduction in the risk of death of approximately 18%, there is still a need to discuss and analyze the efficacy in overall survival, progression free period, toxicity profile, and with special emphasis on the appropriate choice of drugs according to efficacy, toxicity, prognostic factors and characteristics of patients. The objective of this cross-sectional study is to analyze the medical experience in real clinical practice in the scenario of second-line treatment for metastatic gastric cancer in patients treated with ramucirumab, as well as to analyze prognostic factors and their impact on daily clinical practice.
